Genoa can upset Juventus, says Antonelli

Luca Antonelli is confident that Genoa can cause an upset by beating leaders Juventus in Serie A on Sunday.

Antonio Conte s side have only lost once in the league this season and are currently unbeaten in 19 top-flight matches, while mid-table Genoa have taken just one win from their last four Serie A outings.

However, Gian Piero Gasperini s men have only lost three home league matches and Antonelli reckons that the club s fans could play a big role as Genoa look to record a win over Juventus for the first time since 2009.

We will try to make the impossible possible, the defender told the club s official website. The difference between the two sides in terms of value and our positions in the table are enormous.

We need to fight with the spirit that characterises …

Caen v Paris Saint-Germain: Blanc out to lift PSG gloom in Normandy

Paris Saint-Germain visit Caen with speculation over the future of coach Laurent Blanc beginning to surface following a poor run of form.

Blanc s men were held to a 1-1 draw by Lyon at the Parc des Princes on Sunday, producing another sub-par performance in a game that saw Samuel Umtiti hit home an 84th-minute equaliser for the visitors after Edinson Cavani had given PSG the lead.

That result came on the back of a 1-1 stalemates with Rennes and Ajax, both of whom claimed a share of the spoils in the second half after PSG had taken the lead in the first.

PSG are still only three points off early leaders Marseille despite having just two Ligue 1 wins to their name, but the draw with Lyon was enough to force club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to deny suggestions that…

Gundogan wary of Klopp´s Liverpool in title race

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan fears Liverpool have an excellent chance of winning the title under his old boss Jurgen Klopp.

The pair won the 2011-12 Bundesliga crown together – the second league championship of Klopp s tenure – but now reside in opposing camps as City sit two points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Asked about Klopp s influence at Anfield, Germany international Gundogan was effusive in his praise.

It reminds me of the start in Dortmund, especially regarding the types of players. It s kind of similar, he said in quotes reported by Bild. Liverpool has the big advantage of not having to play during the weeks [in Europe].

Klopp has the gift to fascinate a team and to push them. The way they are playing right now, th…

Mind the gap! Juve a reference point for ever-improving Inter, says Conte

Juventus may not be leading the way in Serie A but they continue to be the benchmark in Italian football, according to Inter boss Antonio Conte.

Juve have secured the title for nine successive seasons in the top flight but face a battle to stretch that streak into double figures under Andrea Pirlo s leadership.

Milan lead the way in the table having lost just once in 17 league games so far, while Inter and Roma also sit above the reigning champions in the table.

However, as far as Conte is concerned, the Bianconeri remain the team to beat in the competition.

We know Juventus are a benchmark. They are the side we must look to, one that have dominated in Italy, he told the media ahead of Sunday s showdown with Juventus at San Siro.

They are a …

Fulham are alive! – Ranieri revels in stunning comeback

Claudio Ranieri declared Fulham s chances of Premier League survival alive after a stunning 4-2 comeback win at home to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Glenn Murray struck twice in the opening 17 minutes to leave Fulham looking down and out, but Ranieri s tinkering turned the game back in his side s favour.

Tim Ream was sacrificed midway through the first half, Ranieri having seen enough of defensive disarray from his back five, with the introduction of Tom Cairney allowing him to switch to a flat four.

Luciano Vietto then replaced Andre Schurrle at half-time, but it was Aleksandar Mitrovic who provided the spark of inspiration, setting up Calum Chambers for a fine volley in the 47th minute.

Mitrovic then showed his desire to beat Brighton s static defence to a…

Tottenham 3 Chelsea 1: Brilliant Spurs hammer Sarri´s men to first defeat

Tottenham left Maurizio Sarri s unbeaten record as Chelsea boss in tatters as they stormed to a 3-1 derby win at Wembley.

Dele Alli s sixth goal in this fixture got Spurs off to a flyer and Harry Kane made it 2-0 in the 16th minute.

Son Heung-min was a menace to a ramshackle Chelsea defence throughout and brought up his 50th goal in Tottenham colours with a sublime 54th-minute solo effort.

Olivier Giroud s late header from Cesar Azpilicueta s cross could not stop Mauricio Pochettino s men leapfrogging Chelsea to go third in the Premier League, five points shy of leaders Manchester City on 30 points.

Spurs swarmed all over Chelsea from kick-off and had their reward in the eighth minute when Alli headed Christian Eriksen s delightful free-kick beyond Kep…

Juventus’ Kwadwo Asamoah has released an open on his future.

He won the Serie A title every season he spent there and has matured into a player of high versatility and fine quality. He also played in two Champions League finals.

And now Asamoah has decided it’s time to move on. He has confirmed that despite being offered a new deal to keep him at the Allianz Stadium, he will leave the club this summer. He’s found the decision a tough one to make, and admits that playing against Juventus in the future will be ‘unbearably austere’. It is believed he is set to join Inter Milan.

Eintracht want Grujic

A number of reports in Germany claim that Eintracht Frankfurt are interested in signing Marko Grujic from Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool signed the midfielder from Red Star Belgrade for around €5 million in 2016. He spent a year and a half on Merseyside before going to Cardiff City on loan for the second half of the 2017/18. The following summer he made his way to Germany on a season-long loan to Hertha Berlin. That move has been repeated for 2019/20 too, and his performances in the Bundesliga have been excellent.

Those well-versed with the way things are at Liverpool believe this summer will be the Serbia international s last chance to convince manager Jurgen Klopp to keep him at Anfield, and that there won t be any loan deals thereafter. He will either make the sq…

Atalanta close in on Duvan Zapata

Atalanta have come close to completing a deal for Sampdoria s Duvan Zapata, according to .

It seems the club from Bergamo have beaten off competition from Jiangsu Suning to sign the Colombian striker, helped by the fact that the 27-year-old would strongly prefer to remain in the Serie A to moving to China.

The amount demanded by Sampdoria, around €20million, seemed like a significant obstacle at first, but the move made by Jiangsu Suning forced Atalanta s hand and they are now willing to pay more than they initially intended in order to get the deal over the line.

Zapata only just made his move from Napoli to Sampdoria permanent, having played the whole of 2017/18 season at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on loan. Since signing for Napoli back in 2013, he played two…
