Juan Foyth has joined Villarreal on a season-long loan deal after signing a new contract with Tottenham.
The 22-year-old Argentina defender has not played a competitive game for Spurs this year and will spend the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign in Spain.
His move was announced on Sunday by Tottenham, who also said Foyth had signed a one-year extension to his deal with the Premier League club.
That means Foyth has a Tottenham contract that runs until 2023, but may have played his last game for the north London side.
Foyth has made 32 appearances since arriving from Estudiantes in August 2017, but the loan could become a permanent switch if Foyth impresses in LaLiga.
Villarreal, in announcing Foyth s signing, stated: The loan agreement has a…
Former Italy coach Azeglio Vicini has died at the age of 84.
Vicini led Italy to the World Cup semi-finals on home soil in 1990, but the Azzurri were beaten by Argentina.
He was replaced by Arrigo Saachi following Italy s failure to qualify for the 1992 European Championship.
Spells at Cesena and Udinese did not yield trophies, with Vicini retiring in 1994 before taking the role of head of the technical sector of the Italian Football Federation, a position he remained in until 2010.
Italy Coach at the 1990 World Cup Azeglio Vicini sadly passed away yesterday evening. Rest in peace.

As we approach Monday s Round 11 fixture at Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, there are only two places that separate Torino and Sassuolo in the Serie A table.
In the previous round, Ivan Juric s team put an end to their prolonged winless streak by defeating Lecce, while Sassuolo s winless streak continued as they faced Bologna.
Torino
After a month-long goal drought in the league, Torino managed to secure a 1-0 victory over Lecce, with Alessandro Buongiorno sealing the win in the 41st minute.
During this goalless period, Torino played some very difficult matches, including losses to Lazio (2-0), city rivals Juventus (2-0), and Inter Milan (3-0), as well as a goalless draw with Hellas Verona. This run of underwhelming re…
Barcelona appear most likely to sign Antoine Griezmann after the France international announced he will be leaving Atletico Madrid, despite having signed a new five-year contract last June.
The 28-year-old, who joined Atleti from Real Sociedad for approximately €30million in July 2014, has been the club s top goalscorer across all competitions in each of his five seasons in the capital.
His exploits took him to fifth in the club s list of all-time leading scorers with 133 in all competitions, but the World Cup-winning forward brought much more than just goals to the Rojiblancos.
A detailed look at his season-by-season statistics underline his huge importance to Diego Simeone s team over the past five years, but do they also indicate his best football may be beh…
According to a recent report from AS, Real Madrid are gearing up to sell Gareth Bale during the summer transfer window. The club’s president Florentino Perez has reportedly ran out of patience with Bale, who has had an uneasy time of things at the Bernabeu in the last few years. The report suggests that the only thing which could change Perez’s mind is an ‘outstanding’ end to the season for Bale, who scored twice in Real’s Champions League final win last May.
Bale has been with Madrid since back in 2013, when he made the then-world record jump over from Tottenham Hotspur. It was a move that had been in the pipeline for quite some time, and it’s fair to say that he’s enjoyed his fair share of success since joining.
Bale first made his debut for the Welsh na…
Tottenham secured their place in next season s Champions League and moved up to third in the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at Wembley.
Harry Kane s second-half goal let an out-of-sorts Spurs team off the hook after they were second best at times versus Rafael Benitez s determined Newcastle side on a tense evening in north London.
A run of only one win from four league matches and a defeat to relegated West Brom left Mauricio Pochettino s men needing a drastic improvement against the Magpies but their performance lacked conviction and key players failed to deliver.
After a frustrating first half, a move involving Dele Alli, Kane and Son Heung-min produced the kind of cohesive, fast passing that was Spurs trademark earlier in the season …
According to a recent report from Sky Italy, Claudio Ranieri has agreed to become the new head coach of Watford after they sacked Xisco Munoz.
Ranieri left his role as Sampdoria boss at the end of last season and now, he’s on the verge of heading back to the Premier League a place that holds many special memories for him.
Ranieri was a solid force for Chelsea during his time at Stamford Bridge but he’s best known for guiding Leicester City to a remarkable Premier League title back in 2016. He’s certainly had a rollercoaster ride of a career since then but it appears as if he’s ready for the challenge of trying to steady the ship with the Hornets.
The problem is the managerial merry-go-round that seems to be in operation at Vicarage Road with many worryin…
Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde marvelled at Lionel Messi s form this season, lauding him for making the special seem routine.
Messi has been inspirational for Barca in 2018-19, scoring 45 goals across all competitions to help the club cruise in LaLiga and reach the Champions League semi-finals.
No fewer than 33 of those goals have come from just 29 LaLiga games, while his recent form of 12 strikes in eight league matches has seen Barca maintain their strong form into the crucial stages of the season.
Messi was also at his best on Tuesday when Barca beat Manchester United 3-0 – the Argentina star scoring a brace – to set up a Champions League semi-final tie with Liverpool.
2013 Lionel Messi has scored in the s Quarter Finals for the first time after…
Jordi Alba hopes Spain can show more solidity defensively to complement their attacking panache as Fernando Hierro s side aim to seal a place in the knockout stages of the World Cup against Morocco.
The 2010 winners battled to a 1-0 victory over Iran s massed defensive ranks in Kazan on Wednesday after playing out a 3-3 thriller with Group B leaders Portugal in their opening game.
Cristiano Ronaldo s stunning hat-trick in Sochi came despite Spain controlling long passages of play and when Iran emerged from their shell there were some nervous moments, including an equaliser ruled out for offside.
I think we controlled the match [against Iran], but it is true they generated danger with the play of the disallowed goal and a header at the far post, Barcelona left-ba…
Ibrahim Kamara warned Ivory Coast that Riyad Mahrez will not be the only threat Algeria pose them in Thursday s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final.
Algeria have cruised through the AFCON in emphatic fashion, winning all four of their matches without conceding a single goal, including a convincing 3-0 last-16 triumph over Guinea.
While Ivory Coast represent a greater challenge than Algeria have faced so far, the Fennec Foxes are one of the few remaining favourites following the shock exits of Egypt and Morocco.
Mahrez has unsurprisingly been a star for Algeria, though Adam Ounas is the joint-leading scorer in the competition with three and Youcef Belaili – similarly to the Manchester City winger – has two to his name.
Consequently, Kamara wants Ivory …
